January 25, 2007 Representative Jil Tracy announces General Assembly QUINCY . . . Rep. Jil Tracy announced today that current or college-bound students in the 93 rd Representative District may be able to attend one of Illinois’ state universities tuition free if they qualify for a General Assembly Scholarship Program. “The General Assembly Scholarships cover the cost of tuition at a state university for the school year, usually the fall and spring semesters,” Tracy said. “With tuition costs so high, that’s a great benefit. I want to stress that the application deadline is March 16, 2007 .” Rep. Tracy said she is awarding four one-year scholarships to students attending or accepted at one of the University of Illinois ’ three campuses – Urbana-Champaign, Chicago or Springfield . In addition four one-year scholarships will be awarded each year to students to attend any of the other state universities – Chicago State University, Easter Illinois University, Governor’s State University , Illinois State University, Northern Illinois University, Northeastern University, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale or Edwardsville and Western Illinois University . Qualifications for the Scholarship To qualify for a General Assembly Scholarship, an applicant must be at least 16 years old, be a resident of the 93 rd Representative District and be attending or have been accepted at one of the state universities listed above. Full-time graduate students are also eligible for a scholarship. Persons uncertain about whether they live in the 93 rd District should contact Rep. Tracy’s office at 223-0833. Tracy does not select the scholarship winners. Applications are screened by a scholarship advisory committee comprised of community and business leaders and concerned public officials. The advisory committee selects winners based on financial need, community involvement, and academic merit. |
