Rep. Tracy Proposes Legislation to Protect Veterans from ID Theft For Immediate Release March 12, 2007 Quincy, IL…State Representative Jil Tracy passed HB1236 out of committee last week. The proposed law would increase the penalty for ID theft of when the victim of the theft is serving actively as a member of the Armed Services, Reserve Forces, or National Guard. “ID theft has become so popular as of recently,” said Rep. Tracy. “By increasing the penalty by one class this should help to detour these criminals from taking advantage of the soldiers serving to protect our country.” Members who are actively serving in the armed forces are at increased risks to identity theft crimes because they simply are not able to keep an eye on their finances and personal affairs as closely. “Those serving in the military are less able to monitor their credit while serving their country and being away from home. We should do everything possible to protect our soldiers at home while they are fighting to protect us abroad,” Representative Tracy said.
